Sundays

GS Youth Room

Grades 6-12

Every week we gather together and make church fun and relevant for teenagers. GS Youth is a very casual youth group where middle school and high school students from all different backgrounds come together to worship God, learn about the Bible, ask questions, and share their experiences. We believe that no matter where you are in your faith you should be able to come to GS Youth and feel comfortable. We have excellent worship and our teachings have themes that relate directly to teenage life.

On Wednesday nights, GS Youth starts at 7:00 PM but we encourage everyone to show up early and hang out. At 6:00 PM we open up the gym, GS Youth Room and Cafe.  Come hang out with friends and meet new people.

Sway Phal, Director of STUDENT MINISTRY

Sway loves hanging out with teens, engaging in activities and games, and connecting with them about life and Jesus. He believes that Jesus is the answer and hope that today's generation and culture need for a positive and purposeful life. When not leading youth group on Wednesdays, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing music, sports, working on house projects, and tinkering with technology.

Sway grew up in Oakland, CA and moved north to the Sacramento area in 2005 to attend William Jessup University. After graduating in 2009 with a double major in Bible & Theology and Worship & Music, he came to work with the Teen Ministry at Good Shepherd in 2010.

In the summer of 2011, Sway left to pursue overseas missions and other ministry opportunities. He returned to the Sacramento are in the summer of 2013 with his then fiance Sara. The two married in 2014 and now have a son named Elijah. Sway has been serving at Good Shepherd since he returned and is actively involved in both Teen Ministry and Outreach. Alongside his wife Sara, the two have a passion for overseas missions and anti-trafficking.
